The Rosebud Sioux Tribe hosts funeral services for nine Lakota students who died at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, a boarding school that was operated by the U.S. government.
The ceremony took place at Sinte Gleska University in Mission, South Dakota, on July 17, 2021. A day prior, the tribe brought the children through Iowa and to two reservations in Nebraska and in South Dakota.
The children were formally transferred to the tribe by the U.S. Army on July 14. The event occurred at the Carlisle Barracks Post Cemetery, a military site, in Pennsylvania.
