Native journalist Jen Deerinwater, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, has been on the ground for George Floyd protests in the nation's capital.

During her June 1, 2020, report for Crushing Colonialism, she captured a pivotal moment. She observed military personnel preparing to clear protesters at a church across from the White House.

The protesters were cleared using force so that Donald Trump could take a photo at what he said was a "very special place" -- the St. John's Episcopal Church.
