Attila the Hun was a legendary military leader who spread fear and devastated lands far and wide from the Black Sea through the Mediterranean during the rule of the late Roman Empire. He was dubbed “Flagellum Dei” or “Scourge of God.” This article is not going to be about Attila, it’s going to be about the current Oglala Sioux Tribal Treasurer and her recent action to cause our Wakpamni District Council members to be removed from office.

During the Oglala Sioux Tribe's 2015/2016 John Steele and Tom Poor Bear administration the tribal council elected a pretty classy lady into the position as their Tribal Treasurer. Melanie Two Eagle from Porcupine District took office and took immediate control of the tribe’s finances. Things were going great; the council was all in favor of doing the right thing and working for the people. That was last year, this year is different. The bashing has officially begun.

The bashing is all coming from our treasurer and for the purpose of this OPINION ARTICLE; I have dubbed her “Attila.” We all know that I was hired by the tribe to be their TERO Director in 2015 and I was immediately threatened to not write any further articles. Well, I had to put food on the table so I reluctantly complied. Today, I submitted my resignation which will be effective August 31, 2016. I will be on leave until then. I am resigning because of people like Attila who are free to conspire against other people at will AND, I will not be held down by the Oglala Sioux Tribe because I write for the Oyate, not for the Tribe.

About eight (8) months ago, Attila made up some false claim that I was somehow engaged in criminal activity. She went as far as telling the tribal council that she turned documents into the fed. When she was asked for copies of her complaint, she could not produce one. Recently, Attila did it again and claimed that I had a “Ghost Employee” and again told the council that she turned me into the fed.
