Voters of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe of South Dakota elected Brandon Sazue as chairman, KCCR AM 1240 reports.

Sazue defeated challenger Joseph Shields by a tally of 503 to 449, the station said. The election was held on Thursday.

Sazue previously served as chairman from 2008-2010 and again from 2012-2014. He told KCCR that suicide, methamphetamine abuse and inadequate law enforcement are the top issues on the reservation.

During his 2008-2010 term, Sazue helped federal authorities secure bribery and corruption convictions of several tribal officials.

Sazue succeeds Roxanne Sazue, his aunt, in the chair position. She did not seek re-election.
