Sad news as body of missing Native teen girl is found in Ontario

The remains of a body found in Kenora, Ontario, have been identified as belonging to a missing Native teenager.

Delaine Copenace, 16, was last seen in the city's downtown on February 27. Family and friends said it was unusual for be out on her own. Volunteers organized searches in the community and some even looked in Winnipeg in neighboring Manitoba.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the end of our search for Delaine. We ask that the privacy of the family be respected at this time," organizer Dawna Michelle Anderson wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. Delaine's twin sister, Dayna, was a frequent poster to the group that was dedicated to finding the missing teen.

Delaine was Ojibwe from the Onigaming First Nation near Kenora.
