Choctaw Nation to break ground on new headquarters in March
Posted: Wednesday, February 3, 2016
The
Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma plans to break ground on a $219 million headquarters next month.
The 500,000 square-foot building will be located in Durant. The five-story facility will consolidate programs and services that are currently housed at about 30 different properties, The Oklahoman reported.
“This is a tribal legacy project for the Choctaw Nation and its citizens,” Chief Gary Batton told the paper. “We've waited a long time to see the beginning of this construction, which will bring much more efficient delivery of services for tribal members. This whole project represents the future of the Nation and the progress we have made as a people.”
The building will be near the
Durant Regional Medical Clinic, Chief Batton wrote in the latest issue of the
Biskinik, the tribe's newspaper. That facility is due to open in early 2017.
The headquarters is expected to be completed by the end of 2017, the Oklahoman said.
