www.nsweekly.com PINE RIDGE — “We forced them into taking some tough shots,” Red Cloud Coach Christian McGhee said of last Tuesday night’s 96-53 home court pasting of arch rival Little Wound. “Lucky for us, they missed ‘em.” Always careful to never say anything disrespectful of another school, McGhee was nonetheless extremely pleased, and expressed that by praising the team play of his Crusaders: “Our bench is really deep. All of our kids play hard, but if we just had five guys who played hard, we’d get tired. These kids trust the guy coming off the bench.”

Last January Little Wound came to Red Cloud and handed them a 73-68 defeat. But that team had the graduated Nate Brown Bull at center, and although this team has 6-6 Tex Janis, an agile, aggressive force in the paint, he is only a freshman, and there is not adequate support from the bench. Little Wound only goes ten players deep. Those ten players gave it all they had, but they were visibly exhausted by the middle of the second period.
