The Coeur d'Alene Tribe announced the Catch for Cash program on Thursday.

The tribe will pay $5 for every northern pike caught in the southern third of Lake Coeur d’Alene. Some of the fish have special tags and those will fetch between $50 and $500.

The program is part of the tribe's study of the pike population in the lake. The goal is to determine how the pike affects native species like the cutthroat trout.

The tribe's ownership of the southern portion of Lake Coeur d’Alene was confirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court in June 2001.
