The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Indians in Minnesota is spending $35 million on a top-to-bottom renovation of a hotel in the Twin Cities. The tribe acquired the Crowne Plaza Hotel and the nearby DoubleTree by Hilton in 2013 for about $35 million. The Crowne Plaza will debut as the InterContinental St. Paul-Riverfront in September, The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. “We’re leveraging our financial strength and strength in hospitality,” Joe Nayquonabe, the CEO of Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures, the tribe's economic development arm, told the paper.
