The Farmington Indian Center in New Mexico will select its very first "Ambassador" on June 12. The center for urban Indians has crowned a Miss Indian Farmington for nine years. But the competition will now be open to young Native Americans of both genders. "We're trying not to do things the same way all the time," Myra Newman, the center's division manager, told The Farmington Daily-Times. The Farmington American Indian Ambassador Pageant is open to Native Americans who live in Farmington and are between the ages of 12 and 18. Applications are due Friday. The outgoing Miss Indian Farmington Shenoa Jones, a member of the Navajo Nation, welcomed the new direction of the competition. Get the Story:
