The Department of Energy awarded $6 million to 11 tribes for clean energy and energy efficiency projects.

Of the 11 projects, 10 involve solar energy. The Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, for example, will use the $1 million grant, plus $1 million of its own money, to install solar panels on nine government buildings.

The Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians in California will use a $1 million grant, plus $1.5 million in its own funds, to install a ground-mounded solar system.

"We will continue to work with tribal leaders to advance clean energy solutions and identify climate resiliency strategies to prepare for and adapt to the impacts of climate change on their land, economy, and natural resources," Deputy Energy Secretary Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall said in a press release.
