The Miami Nation of Oklahoma is reconnecting with its ancestral territory in Indiana. The tribe will open a cultural resources office in Fort Wayne, Indiana, this year. It will provide services to members that live in the area, along with historic preservation consulting and cultural programming, The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel reported. “We are excited to announce we have purchased a piece of our homeland," Chief Douglas Landford said at a tribal gathering in Fort Wayne last October, the Atotankiki Myaamiaki reported. "Our concerns and interests regarding history and culture in Indiana will be better served by our presence here”. Lankford and other tribal leaders will be in Fort Wayne tomorrow to discuss the office. It's due to open to the public in May. About 500 tribal members live in Indiana, where the tribe was based before being removed to Kansas and then to Oklahoma. Get the Story:
