The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut has named an interim director for its museum.

Jason Mancini, a professor of anthropology, will run the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center as it prepares to reopen in May. The $193 million facility is currently closed for the winter season, a first since it opened in 1998.

"I am honored that the tribe has entrusted me with this great responsibility and I look forward to forging new relationships and building a solid foundation, so that the museum will endure for generations to come," Mancini said in a statement, The Hartford Courant reported.

Mancini will establish an independent governing board for the museum, the paper said.
