The House Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs holds a legislative hearing this afternoon. Two bills are on the agenda. They are:
• H.R. 409, the Indian Trust Asset Reform Act. The bill overhauls trust reform programs at the Interior Department by creating a pilot program to allow tribes to develop trust asset management plans, elevating the Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs to the Under Secretary for Indian Affairs and eliminating the Office of Special Trustee for American Indians by transferring its duties to the new Under Secretary.The hearing takes place at 2pm in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building. The witness list follows:
• H.R. 4350, the Northern Cheyenne Lands Act. The bill places land and mineral rights in trust for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana.
