Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs sets hearing

The House Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs will hold a legislative hearing on Wednesday.

Two bills are on the agenda. They are:
H.R. 409, the Indian Trust Asset Reform Act. The bill states that "the relationship of Indian tribes to the United States is founded in part on the settled doctrine of the law of nations that when a stronger sovereign assumes authority over a weaker sovereign, the stronger one assumes a duty of protection for the weaker one, which does not surrender its right to self-government."
H.R. 4350, the Northern Cheyenne Lands Act. The bill places land and mineral rights in trust for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana.

The hearing takes place at 2pm in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building. A witness list hasn't been posted online.
