The Morongo Band of Mission Indians in California is distributing 10,000 turkeys this week as part of its annual Thanksgiving Outreach.

Charities, churches and non-profit organizations will use turkeys to provide an estimated 150,000 Thanksgiving meals during the holiday season. The donation is a long-running tradition for the tribe.

“For nearly three decades, Morongo’s Thanksgiving Outreach program has helped feed the less fortunate during this holiday season and we intend to continue the tradition for many years to come,” council member Tom Linton said in a press release.

Over the past 29 years, the tribe has donated more than 90,000 turkeys. The birds have been used to provide 1.3 million meals to needy individuals in southern California.
