The Nooksack Tribe of Washington is looking re-start disenrollment proceedings despite the presence of a court order barring removals.

The Nooksack Court of Appeals issued a permanent injunction in Roberts v. Kelly in March. The decision said the tribe had to devise a new disenrollment process and submit it to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for approval.

But the tribe contends it already won BIA approval back in 2006. Some people who were protected by the court order are now receiving notices that they could be removed after disenrollment hearings next month.

Another lawsuit, Belmont v. Kelly, was filed in tribal court to halt the new proceedings.
