Three tribes are applying to receive a share of bison that were taken from
Yellowstone National Park
.
The
Cherokee Nation
of Oklahoma, the
Fort Peck Tribes
of Montana and the
Quapaw Tribe
of Oklahoma submitted applications to
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks
by an April 30 deadline. They were among 10 total applicants.
A panel will now determine where the 135 bison will be placed. The animals are currently being held at a ranch owned by
Ted Turner
