10News posted this image of an electronic sign that upset the Jamul Indian Village and local residents
The Jamul Indian Village of California said it was "horrified" by a racist message that appeared on an electronic sign near the reservation. Someone programmed the sign to use the N-word, most likely in reference to lyrics from a song. The language upset the tribe and local residents. "Our tribe is horrified by the racist message that made its way onto a construction sign in Jamul," the tribe said in a statement to 10News." Although we can't be sure the Jamul Indian Village is the target of these disparaging remarks, we are painfully aware the 'n' word is sometimes used, in a different context, to refer to our people. No matter the intended target, we would like to be clear that these words are extremely hurtful." The sign sits along a highway that runs by tribal headquarters. 10News said anyone could have programmed it because the control compartment was unlocked. Get the Story:
