A public school district on the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana has agreed to redraw its voting areas in response to a lawsuit from Indian voters.

The American Civil Liberties Union in Montana sued the Wolf Point School District last fall. The lawsuit noted that Indian voters weren't being equally represented on the school board despite being the majority in one area.

“Native American voters in Wolf Point will now have the representation they are due under the federal Voting Rights Act,” ACLU attorney Jon Ellingson said in a press release.

The settlement in Jackson v. Wolf Point School District was approved last week.
