School officials leave Blackfeet Nation after Facebook threats

Two public school officials on the Blackfeet Nation of Montana have left their jobs and the reservation after a former student allegedly posted threats on Facebook.

Heart Butte School Superintendent Russ McKenna and Vice Principal Felecia Kleven weren't named specifically in the message posted by the student, who was expelled last year. But McKenna said they feared for their safety.

“This is to inform you and the school board as a whole, due to the direct threat to the current administrative team … we find it necessary for our safety to leave Heart Butte," a letter to Heart Butte School Board Chairman Grinnell Day Chief. stated, The Great Falls Tribune reported.

Principal Dr. Charles Smith was planning to leave as well but he changed his mind, the paper said.
