Yurok Tribe schedules election to replace late Bonnie Green





The Yurok Tribe of California has called a special election to fill the seat of Bonnie Green, a council member who passed away on January 18.

Green served six terms on the council and one term as vice chair. She was instrumental in securing a $27.5 million trust fund settlement that the tribe reached with the Obama administration. She also was a fishing rights advocates.

”We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss,” Chairman Thomas P. O'Rourke Sr. said in a press release. “Bonnie Green was a force of nature and as dedicated as they come. Her many contributions to the Tribe's success will never be forgotten.”

The special election will take place April 2.
