Fort Peck Tribes feel sequester's hit on education and health

The Fort Peck Tribes of Montana are already feeling the effects of the federal budget sequester.

The school system on the reservation is losing $1.2 million in Impact Aid funding. Positions are going unfilled and summer school might be canceled.

“The ones who are supposed to help us the most, hurt us the most,” Chairman Floyd Azure told The Washington Post. “This is disgraceful.”

The tribes are also bracing for an 8 percent cut in Indian Health Service funding and a 5 percent cut in Head Start funding.
