Robert Chicks, the president of the
Stockbridge-Munsee
Community in Wisconsin, is facing a recall effort.
Chicks avoided being removed from office at council meeting on Tuesday. So opponents will take their case to tribal members in hopes of scheduling a recall election.
"We can act as a whole, as a people, if our elected officials are not following the law,"
Cassie Molkentin, a spokesperson for the group seeking to oust Chicks, told The Shawano Leader.
The dispute stems from an incident in which Chicks was arrested after a traffic stop. He allegedly paid his $300 bond with a tribal credit card.
