Arizona agency under fire for ignoring child abuse allegations

Arizona's Child Protective Services is under fire for failing to investigate 6,554 allegations of child abuse over the last five years.
Gov. Jan Brewer (R) has convened a Child Advocate Response Examination team to determine why so many cases were marked "N.I." for "Not Investigated." Some 5,000 claims came through a hotline that she took credit for reorganizing, The New York Times reported.
Clarence H. Carter, the director of the Department of Economic Security, which oversees the child welfare agency, is facing calls to resign.
