House committee sets markup on Native veterans memorial bill
Posted: Monday, December 2, 2013
The
House Natural Resources Committee will hold a markup session on Wednesday.
Eight bills are on the agenda. One of them is
H.R.
2319, the Native American Veterans' Memorial Amendments Act of 2013.
The bill authorizes the
National
Museum of the American Indian to raise funds and start work on a memorial
for American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian veterans. The memorial
would be located at the museum's site in the National Mall.
The bill received enthusiastic support from members of both parties at a hearing before the
House
Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs in July.
Tribal organizations, including the
National Congress of American Indians, also back the measure.
Wednesday's markup takes place at 10am in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building.
