Tribes of Oklahoma have spent $2.7 million on elders this year, Gov. Janice Prairie Chief-Boswell said.
Elders get a $100 monthly food card and have received $600 over the past three months for heating and cooling costs. But they won't get a $100 Thanksgiving voucher this year and some are upset.
"Whatever means you have, you've already paid your bills, and you depend on that because you say okay, then I can afford to pay this because we're going to get this voucher," elder Jane Nightwalker told News on 9. "But now, we don't have the voucher, I should've saved money so we can buy this turkey."
Prairie Chief-Boswell has faced challenges to her position as governor.
