William I. Koch, a wealthy businessman who is ranked as the 122nd richest person in the U.S., is battling controversial wind farm off the coast of Massachusetts.
Koch has spent about $5 million against
Cape Wind, a farm that would be located near his property on the island of Martha's Vineyard. He says the project would destroy local views and raise the cost of electricity.
The
Aquinnah Wampanoag
Tribe and the
Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe oppose the project for similar reasons. They say the wind turbines will block their view of the sun and harm sacred and archaeological sites.
The project remains tied up in litigation despite winning approval from the Obama administration.
