Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe up and running despite shutdown

The Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe of Washington isn't letting the shutdown of the federal government slow down business.

Chairman Ron Allen credited self-determination and the tribe's diverse economic holdings with keeping operations afloat. “We're doing our job. We're keeping our doors open," he told the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce, The Peninsula Daily News reported.

The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe hasn't been so lucky. The tribe shut down its child care service program and has reduced funds for other programs.

“It's affecting the whole organization,” Chairwoman Francis Charles told the paper. “We just want to make sure we have a buffer in there if this goes longer than expected.”
