Ute Mountain Tribe into final stretch before general election

Members of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe of Colorado go to the polls next week to elect a new chairman and three council representatives.

Chairman Gary Hayes is running for re-election. He faces six challengers, including Bradley W. Hight, a sitting council member.

"I believe I would be a strong leader of the tribe with a vision for the future," Hight told The Cortez Journal, referring to some of the projects the tribe has completed in recent years.

The election takes place October 11.
