The Shinnecock Nation of New York is taking steps to combat prescription drug abuse.
The tribe hosted a prescription drug task force organized by the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
The team educated the group about the warning signs of drug abuse, particularly among youth.
"It's an issue here, it's an issue in the surrounding community," Rev. Michael Smith said at the meeting, Newsday reported. "Anybody who says it's not is avoiding the issue."
The tribe will be hosting a Drug Enforcement Agency event on October 26 to collect unused prescription drugs, Newsday reported.
