Alaska Native corporation weighs lawsuit over energy revenue

Eklutna Inc., an Alaska Native village corporation, might sue the city of Anchorage over energy being generated on public property.

Under an agreement with the city, Eklutna is supposed to receive 50 percent of revenues from public interest lands. The corporation says that includes the sale of methane being gathered on the Anchorage Regional Landfill.

But the city claims the agreement only covers revenue produced by the land itself and not by any improvements like the energy gathering system. The corporation, however, believes it might owed as much as $24 million.
