White Mountain Apache Tribe in DC for water rights agreement

The White Mountain Apache Tribe of Arizona is in Washington, D.C., to sign a water rights agreement at the Interior Department.

Chairman Ronnie Lupe and Interior Secretary Sally Jewell will sign the agreement to provide funding for the design and construction of a water system. The system will benefit residents of the reservation and the city of Phoenix.

Lupe and Jewell will be joined by members of Congress who sponsored the water rights settlement that President Barack Obama signed into law in December 2010 as part of the Claims Resolution Act. The bill authorized more than $200 million for the water system and for tribal projects.

The ceremony will be broadcast at 1pm EST at www.doi.gov/live
