Senate confirms FBI director and plans vote on NLRB nominees

The Senate voted 93-1 on Monday to confirm James Comey as the new director of the FBI.

Comey, who was the second highest-ranking official at the Department of Justice from 2003 to 2005, will now be in charge of investigating crime in Indian Country. The FBI has 100 special agents assigned to more than 200 reservations.

In related news, the Senate plans to take action on long-delayed nominees to the National Labor Relations Board. The agency has operated without a full slate since the start of the Obama administration, a situation whose legality will be addressed by the U.S. Supreme Court in an upcoming case.

The NLRB has continued to make decisions without at least three Senate-confirmed members, including one in which it asserted jurisdiction at a casino owned by the Chickasaw Nation. The tribe raised the issue but was rebuffed anyway.
