Posted: Tuesday, July 23, 2013
The
Diaguita Tribe
is asking the highest court in Chile to order a new environmental study for an $8.5 billion gold mine.
The tribe won an appeals court ruling that said
Barrick Gold Corp.
must monitor and address environmental conditions at the mine site. But the tribe says a new study is warranted to address cultural and water concerns.
The mine is located in the mountains on the border of Chile and Argentina
