Cheyenne River man's payday loan firm named in class action

A payday loan firm owned by a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe has been named in a class action lawsuit filed in South Dakota federal court.

The lawsuit aims to represent consumers from Minnesota, Texas and Virginia who received loans from Martin “Butch” Webb and his companies. The complaint claims the plaintiffs were charged interest rates that are not legal in those states, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reported.

Webb has been targeted by several states and the Federal Trade Commission. His companies are not entities of the tribe.

Turtle Talk has posted the complaint in the case, Heldt v. Payday Financial LLC.
