Supreme Court issues order to finalize decision in ICWA case

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday issued an order to finalize its decision in Adoptive Couple v. Baby Girl, an Indian Child Welfare Act case.

Normally, the court takes 25 days to finalize a decision. But Justice Samuel A. Alito, who wrote the majority opinion, said the case will be sent to the South Carolina Supreme Court "seven days" after Friday's order.

The non-Indian couple that wants to adopt the Cherokee Nation who is at the center of the dispute was pushing the court to move quickly. She currently lives in Oklahoma with her father, Dusten Brown, a tribal citizen, and his family.
