The Squaxin Island Tribe of Washington apologized for the "inappropriate" actions of a group of canoers who killed a deer in southern Puget Sound.

A video that was shared on Facebook shows the canoers striking and killing the deer with a paddle and a knife. The tribal council condemned the incident.

"The Council is deeply saddened by the events depicted in the video, and wishes to make clear that such actions will not be tolerated, now or in the future," a statement posted on Northwest Sportsman reads. "The actions of the individuals involved are entirely improper and are contrary to the beliefs and teachings of the Squaxin Island Tribe."

The tribe and the state are investigating because no deer hunting was allowed at the time of the incident.
