History: What happened during Oklahoma Land Run of 1889

How Oklahoma tribes lost their treaty-promised territory with the Land Run of 1889:
The Indian Removal Act of 1830 eventually led to the Trail of Tears. Creek and Seminole tribes were granted area known before the Land Run as the Unassigned Lands.

In 1889, Congress, lobbied by the railroads and farmers who wanted the land, opened the Unassigned Land for the land run after extinguishment of Indian titles to land with payment.

The land run took place April 22, 1889.
