The Mississippi Band of Choctaw
Indians announced the results of its June 11 council election.
Tribal members filled seats in six districts. The most closely watched race was in Standing Pine, where incumbent Kevin Jody Edwards, who serves as vice chief, easily defeated former chief Beasley Denson.
Denson was ousted by Chief Phyliss J. Anderson in 2011. She is serving a four-year term.
