Two council members who are being removed from the Nooksack Tribe of Washington have filed a lawsuit against the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The lawsuit aims to stop a constitutional election that the BIA is overseeing. The council members say the changes, if approved, will make it harder for them to re-enroll with the tribe.

The tribe says 306 people, including council members Rudy St. Germain and Michelle Roberts, do not meet membership requirements. The 306 people represent 15 percent of the current membership.
