The
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
won't stop exploratory drilling work at a controversial mine site near the reservation of the
Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians
.
The tribe complained that it wasn't consulted or notified of the work at the
Gogebic Taconite mine
. The site is within the tribe's treaty ceded territory.
The state said the company complied with all requirements for work at the $1.5 billion iron ore mine site.
