Posted: Tuesday, June 18, 2013
Cal State San Bernardino will be offering classes in Serrano, the language of the
San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.
Fewer than 15 members of the tribe have an understanding of the language. The last fluent speaker died in 2002.
"Our language has laid dormant for so long," Chairwoman Carla Rodriguez told The San Bernardino Sun.
Morongo Band of Mission Indians. He learned Serrano while he was growing up.
"The language is sacred; it's not something you take lightly," Siva told the paper.
The language classes will be offered every quarter at CSUSB.
