Indian beneficiaries in Alaska share in $3.4B Cobell settlement

About 21,000 people in Alaska are receiving a share of the $3.4 billion Cobell trust fund settlement.

About 3,000 of those are part of the historical accounting class. Checks for $1,000 were sent out before Christmas.

“The thing we’re happy about is it’s quite clear we’ve reached most people,” attorney Keith Harper told The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.

Additional funds are coming to Alaska residents through the trust administration class. The $800 payment is expected later this year.
