Many beneficiaries still waiting for share of Cobell settlement

Many Indian beneficiaries still haven't received their initial share of the $3.4 billion Cobell trust fund settlement.

Checks for $1,000 went out before Christmas. But some were sent to incorrect addresses so beneficiaries are waiting for new ones to be reissued.

"Seems like they're not even paying attention to the information we're giving them because they're still going back to the addresses we had years ago," Coty Cloud, a member of the Crow Tribe, who is still waiting for her check, told KZBK-TV.

According to the Garden City Group, which was appointed by the court to administer the settlement, 284,000 out of 328,000 historical accounting class members have received their checks. Mailing addresses are being obtained from the Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians.
