Seneca Nation wins $7.4M in contract support costs dispute

The Indian Health Service owes the $7.4 million to the Seneca Nation of New York, a federal judge ruled last week.

The IHS agreed to pay the tribe the costs of providing health care on the reservation. But the agency undercounted the number of patients that were served by 33 percent, Judge Rosemary M. Collyer said in a May 23 decision.

“The data is the data and records don’t lie," President Barry E. Snyder, Sr. said in a press release.

Collyer ordered IHS to pay the tribe for underfunding the self-determination contract in 2010 and 2011.

Turtle Talk has posted the decision in the case, Seneca Nation v. HHS.
