Saginaw Chippewa Tribe seeks listing for old boarding school

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan wants a former boarding school placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Michigan Indian Industrial Boarding School operated from June 1893 to June 1934. The tribe holds a remembrance ceremony every June to honor the students who died there.
“The goal is to end the silence about this era and begin the journey toward healing and reconciliation,” spokesperson Frank Cloutier told The Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun of this year's event, scheduled for June 6.
The tribe has identified 207 children who died at the school.
