Hoopa Valley man awaits tribal court ruling on banishment
Posted: Tuesday, May 28, 2013
Arthur “Arty” Jones, a member of the
Hoopa Valley Tribe of California, could be banished from the reservation due to drug trafficking.
Jones pleaded guilty to selling and transporting methamphetamine.
The tribal council recommended that he be excluded but an appeal is pending in tribal court.
"We either stand with the drug dealers, or not. That is what this is about," Vice Chairman Byron Nelson Jr. told The Two Rivers Tribune.
Jones says the tribe's banishment was meant for child abusers and people who were convicted of sexual assaults.
