Zia Pueblo offers prayers amid worsening drought conditions

Drought conditions in New Mexico are the worst in the U.S., with tribes across the state affected.

The Drought Monitor for New Mexico shows Severe, Extreme and Exceptional drought conditions on reservations. There isn't an area of the state that isn't affected.

“We’re worried, but we’re maintaining our traditional ways and cultural ways. Together we pray, and individually we pray,” Peter Pino, the administrator for Zia Pueblo, told the Associated Press. “We haven’t lost hope in the spiritual world, that they’ll be able to provide us resources throughout the year.

“We’re not giving up. That’s pretty much all we can do at this point," Pino added.
