Editorial: Allow honor song at school graduation ceremony

Newspaper calls on Chamberlain School District to allow honor song at graduation ceremonies for students, many of whom are members of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe:
Graduation is designed to honor the students of a community who have worked hard enough to achieve a diploma.

It’s a ceremony that comes with public pride, as family, friends and sometimes total strangers celebrate together a class’s success.

At Chamberlain High School, school board members have denied a request that a Native American honoring song be performed at its May 19 graduation. Some students and parents upset with that decision have asked the board to reconsider, which it said it will do on May 13. In our opinion, the answer should be easy: Yes, allow the song.
